Last month marked the 5 year anniversary for Melissa Trinkl’s mobile paint company Vino and Canvas. Let’s just say that this entrepreneur and mom of 3 has a lot going for her and this was an awesome celebration to be a part of! What is better than going to a local restaurant or bar enjoying company with friends, drinking, and painting? If this sounds like your cup of tea than Vino and Canvas is your gig.
Melissa’s love for art, wine, and a desire to work with the community is what lead to the birth of Vino and Canvas. Since the launch of her business Vino and Canvas has hosted 1,700 events with more than 30,000 painters! What is a paint party? Well it’s simple, you show up drink and paint. You can check out Vino and Canvas’s webpage and look for a local event (hosted all over the valley). If you can’t find what you are looking for Vino and Canvas also hosts private parties where they come to you!
As a business owner and mom it can be challenging to balance both worlds. I asked Melissa to share with me what it’s like to be a “mompreneur” aka “boss mom” and this is what she had to say:
“Since launching Vino and Canvas in 2012, I married in 2014, had my first child in 2015 and gave birth to my second child in 2017. As our family has grown, so have my responsibilities. As a mother of three, Jack (2), Charlie Rose (8 months) and my awesome bonus, Ricky (14), my days are filled with karate lessons, swimming lessons, soccer practice, homework, playdates and laundry. Raising my children and providing them the attention that they need is my first priority. It can be challenging to find the time to run a business but having a business is something I find so rewarding!
Vino and Canvas averages 25-30 events a month; we’re busy! My weekly responsibilities include business planning, financial management, marketing, customer service, website development, social media engagement, event staffing, inventory management, establishing partner relationships and so so so so so much more. Now, more than ever, I have struggled to learn how to effectively be a mompreneur. I can honestly say, I think I have finally figured it out or at least a system that works for me. I spend an hour in the quiet of the morning before the kids wake preparing for the day. The kids prefer that I not be at my desk so when we’re home and active I get them involved in the fun! Jack loves to sort paint and talk colors when I’m busy cleaning or preparing supplies. We get busy with a morning activity such as karate or swimming. I then have my most productive hour or two when the kiddos are down for an afternoon nap. If its a incredibly busy week or I have fallen behind on tasks, I am not afraid to ask Grandma to come over or hire a babysitter. I can’t do it all and we should all ask for help when we need it.
Some days feel challenging but most days feel manageable. It feels that way because I truly love what I do. I have an amazing team, a reliable support network and help whenever I need it. I have learned to be present in today. Whether its work or family, we’ll get through it. For me, the daily reward is the quality time I get to spend with my children.”
If you haven’t had the chance to experience one of these events I implore you to do so. Melissa offers AMAZING deals and I mean seriously it’s a steal and worth every penny! Check out her website and purchase a seat at one of her next events, you won’t regret it!
