In an age where it seems everyone is a photographer with their phones these days you might be thinking to yourself, why do I need professional family photos?
Family photos are more than just a photo they are a way to pass down information from one generation to the next.
You’ve heard the saying a picture is worth a thousand words…well, it’s true. As technology is becoming more relevant in our lives and our attention span is getting smaller and smaller the easy accessibility of images on our phones and in social media is both amazing and terrible.
Fewer families are taking the time or money to get quality family photos because hey I have an iPhone that takes pretty good photos right? I love that I can take a photo at any time but even as a professional photographer 8 out of the 10 photos I take with my phone are bad. The good ones get buried and rarely see the light of day.
And, the few photos that families do spend money on are the overpriced school pictures that if we are being honest only serve as a reminder of how awkward we were as a child.
So why is it important to get family photos? Here are:
3 reasons why family photos are important and why you should be investing in them.
1. Treasure your Memories

We hear it all the time - time moves so fast yet that doesn't stop us from getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily life.
This is especially true for families but between dirty diapers, runny noses, packing lunches, and let's not forget our full-time jobs scheduling family photos is often the last thing on your mind.
But taking the time to get your family photos does something nothing else can - it preserves that time and space in your family's life that will never be that way again.
"I was so exhausted when we got our photos taken, but I am so thankful for them now because when I look at them, I see what I went through to have her." - Danielle, words of a new mama
Scheduling those family photos seems like a huge pain in the rear but you'll be so thankful you did.
2. Witness the Beauty
"The best thing about a photo is that it never changes even if the people in it do." -Andy Warhol
TOO often I hear these statements
"I'll get family photos when I...."
"just get pictures of the kids, I don't need to be in them."
When you are raising a family, it feels messy, chaotic, and decidedly unglamorous. Being in front of the camera is probably the last thing you and your partner want to do because ummm, you're barely surviving.
But, there is something that happens that most people don't tell you when you get your family photos taken.
A great family photographer captures the whole story of your family.

There is nothing more special than seeing a photo of you and your child holding hands while you feed her.

Laughing as your boys smash you and shower you with hugs.

Seeing your daughter giggle as you swing her on your hip.
Your family photos give you the distance you need to see the absolute beauty and wonder that is your wild, beautifully - sometimes overwhelming life. That is more special than words can describe.
You just can't get that if you are the one always taking the pictures - no matter how great you are at taking a photo.
3. Leave your children with your legacy
At the end of it all, what we've created and leave behind matters.
I believe family photos are one of the most cherished treasures we can possess. They can stand in as memories when our memory fades, and they are quite frankly proof of life.

Your family's life deserves to be documented and preserved for future generations to love and appreciate.
