Warm Summer days & wonderfully delicious ice cream brings me back to my childhood. How about you? I love ice cream, and during the Summer months, my craving for ice cream only grows stronger.
I recently moved back to Pittsburgh from Phoenix and was exploring the neighborhood one day when I stumbled upon Millie's Homemade Ice Cream. Let's just say it was love at first bite. In the next three weeks, I frequented the shop nearly five times! During one of my visits, I noticed how adorable Millie's is on the inside. I thought about my memories of Summer days, ice cream with my family and I realized how fun it would be to photograph other families creating their own memories of ice cream on a warm Summer day.
It was messy, fun, and all around delightful photographing each family. One of my favorite parts was the mess. When one of the children would pick chocolate ice cream, I thought to myself 'oh yeah, this is gonna be good!' I love photographing real messy moments because these are the times that we want to remember most when we get older, and things change. Photographs that tell the story of a families life at that time are the images that will bring back the most vivid memories of that moment. You know what I am talking about? It's like when you look at those prom pictures where you are striking an epic pose, and you can feel the night and youth all over again. There's something about seeing those memories that bring back sensations we wouldn't experience otherwise.
If you haven't yet had the chance to check out Millie's I highly recommend you do. They have two locations one is in Shadyside, and the other is downtown in Market Square. My favorite flavors of ice cream that they serve are the Vegan Chocolate; it tastes like pudding and the Vietnamese Coffee, it tastes like coffee.
