Why did you start your business & what is your mission?

“I started my blog in the summer of 2018. At the time, it was called Your Average Female. I wanted a creative outlet where I could share my passion for health, wellness and beauty, and to inspire others to live healthier lives. During the very early stages of my blog, it took a while for me to firm up my mission, my vision, and what exactly I would blog – and quite frankly it looked quite different than it does now! With my blog still being in its early stages, I have learned that the creative process is just that: a process. The more I blogged and posted on Instagram, the more I began to uncover my true voice and style.

Thus, Essential Olivia was born in early 2019. My mission is to inspire others to live a healthy, flourishing lifestyle that not only takes into consideration the individual mind, body and spirit but also respects humanity and Planet Earth in the journey to overall wellness. My goal is to offer sustainable and attainable wellness tips that are easily incorporated into any lifestyle (no matter how busy!), and I aim to show people that you don’t have to go to extreme lengths to be healthy or sustainable – small, manageable, and collective steps are what will get us all there.”

How do you want your audience to feel when they interact with your business?

“I strive to create a positive, uplifting, and inspiring space for my audience! I hope that my content allows my audience to feel motivated and educated to create positive change in their own lives.”

In 10 years when you look back on your life and business what difference do you hope you will have made in the world?

“Oooh such a good but tough question. I want to be an active force in creating a healthier and more sustainable world. I hope that in 10 years, I will have made a positive impact on society’s adoption of more sustainable habits, and I also hope to run a business that uses its economic position to create positive change in our world.”

What advice would you give someone else who wants to start their own business?

“Definitely time management for me. Essential Olivia is not my full-time job, so trying to juggle 40-hour workweeks, yoga teacher training, nurturing relationships, allowing time for my own self-care, AND creating content is tough! It can be easy for the side hustle to become a side thought, so I’m still learning to properly manage my time.”

What’s the hardest part about running your own business?

Definitely time management for me. Essential Olivia is not my full-time job, so trying to juggle 40-hour workweeks, yoga teacher training, nurturing relationships, allowing time for my own self-care, AND creating content is tough! It can be easy for the side hustle to become a side thought, so I’m still learning to properly manage my time.

What’s the best part about running your own business?

Creative freedom! I love the process of creating content, it lights me up. I also love getting positive responses to my content and getting to engage with my audience.

What are your final words of wisdom?

Take the first step! It is so important to incorporate work into our lives that ignite our passions. I believe that everyone has a skillset (what you’re physically good at) and a soul set (what fuels your spirit). Finding the intersection between skillset and soul set is where you find purpose. Even if it begins as a small side project, and you have no idea what the end result looks like, every small step is a step towards realizing your dreams. Don’t stress about what others are doing, and don’t fall victim to impostor syndrome. You are 100% capable, and you have everything you need – you just need to take the first step.
